Joe’s Tasting Notes Big, bold and powerful aromas emanate from the full-bodied dense and compact wine. A wine built for the long haul. Wild blackberry aromas carry over the palate, giving rich and concentrated flavors with caramel, rye, chocolate and gamey characters. The tannins are big, but sweet with ripeness intertwined and well-balanced with the fruit and barrel spices, giving a solid frame of age-ability. Best opened starting in 2008 and drinkable through 2018.

2005 in particular gave way to early summer rains and cooler than normal temperatures in the fall, yielding near perfect acid/sugar ratios. Vixen is characterized by her very dark beautiful color. Smoky, rich blackberry and hints of ripe black cherry on the nose. Close your eyes and experience the subtle complexity of the Rhone Rogue Valley, as Vixen finishes with roasted espresso. A musty Gruyere or maple smoked Vermont Cheddar will do nicely with this fox.

The wine was aged for 10 months exclusively in oak barrels from a variety of French coopers. These grapes from Lakeside Vineyard are a Hermitage clone.
