  • Located in southeast Washington State, extends partly into the northeastern corner of Oregon. Lies within the larger Columbia Valley AVA.
  • Named after the Walla Walla (means "rapid stream" or "many waters) people who lived along the shores of the Walla Walla River at its junction with the Snake River and the Columbia River.
  • Second highest concentration of vineyards and wineries in Washington State after Yakima Valley AVA.

This 2005 Derby is a huge Cabernet Sauvignon and once again, the acidity of our Spring Valley Vineyard fruit keeps the tannins, fruit, and alcohol in perfect balance.   • There is a lot of muscle in this fifth seductive vintage of Frederick. The nose is bright with scents of licorice and blackberry. The mouth feel is huge with a concentration of dark ripe black fruit. As usual, the tannins are richly present with exceptional quality, adding to a lingering, soft finish. This wine is enjoyable now, although I recommend opening the bottle 48 hours in advance to decant, as this wine has a very serious aging potential.
