Our Alba Rosa was the first “blush wine” to be produced in New Jersey back in 1984. We used the Marechal Foch grape (simply called Foch here) because when it is lightly pressed and fermented cool, it makes a wine with a delicious strawberry / raspberry character. Most of us here at Alba drink more red wine than white, so we needed a good, solid everyday red. After many years of experimentation, our winemaker has developed just the right blend for our Old Mill Red that packs plenty of flavor but is soft and easy to drink, with meals or by itself. Our Vintage Port is produced predominantly from the Marechal Foch grape. The traditional method of making a port wine is employed; to halt the fermentation process, pot-stilled brandy is added to the must, so that a degree of residual sugar remains in the finished wine. The wine is then matured in small, older American oak barrels for one year, after which time it is bottled, and then aged in the bottle prior to release.
