A delightful blend of 66% Merlot and 34% Cabernet, this wine is good at room temperature. However, I like it slightly chilled. The high alcohol content doesn't mask the fruit, nor burn the mouth. This wine pairs well with red meats, pork, red sauce pastas, and most salads.

The aromas and flavors are blackberry, purple plum, and vanilla bean with a light graham cracker note. The body is medium plus with the rich finish. The tannins are very smooth almost to the point of being silky. Decanting this wine thirty minutes prior to enjoying it will reward you by allowing the wine to fully develop aromatically before being poured into your glass.

The deep red color hints at the finesse and depth this wine possesses. Yummy toasty oak and vanilla bean notes wrap around a juicy core of black cherry, chocolate and coffee flavors. The tannins are fine grained yet are still present enough to provide decent aging potential. A good six to ten years of cellar potential exist with this fine wine.

This Merlot drinks earlier than other vintages. The grapes are from a new vineyard for us, Upland Vineyards in Sunnyside on Snipes Mountain, one of the newest AVAs in the state. This wine is soft in the middle with nice cherry and plum fruitiness. Serve with lighter meats and cheese. A roast pork shoulder would just about be perfect.
