The Casa Carneros 2002 Merlot from the Las Lomas Vineyard is the last time Casa Carneros will produce a Merlot from this vineyard. In 2003 the grower chose to pull these vine so no more fruit will be available. 2002 was the 10th and last year we fermented these grapes. A hillside vineyard with a south facing slope, Las Lomas produced wines with ripe fruit and high acidity. This wine opens with a ripe bouquet of bing cherry, red fruits, violets, anise, and a color that is dense, dark and ruby. Balanced acidity and mature tannins give the midplalate structure to support the lush, jammy mouth feel and the rich spectrum of fruit, spice and toasty oak that linger on the long, extended finish.
