Winemaker Linda King
|
Winemaker, Linda King, came to North Carolina from the largest estate winery in Ohio to help build and establish RagApple Lassie Winery as well as help to put the Yadkin Valley "on the map" for being a noted and award-winning wine region. Linda is crafting wines that reflect both her personal artistic touch and the unique character and richness of the Yadkin Valley Appellation. Having the distinction of winning numerous International awards for wines she produced in Ohio, including Best of Class, double gold awards, and many other accolades, as well as a very prestigious write-up in the Wall Street Journal, her first wines here at RagApple Lassie Vineyards are following that same path. Every wine Linda has made at RagApple Lassie Vineyards has won awards in International, regional and state competitions. An Internationally certified wine judge, Linda regularly judges at competitions across the United States. The Pacific Rim International, American Wine Society International, Finger Lakes International and the California State Fair are regulars on her judging list. Judging helps to keep her palate sharp and increases education regarding the wines of the world, their styles and nuances. Linda has served on the board of directors for the American Wine Society as well as having been Wine Judge Certification Chairman and is the recipient of the American Wine Society Outstanding Member Award. She has taught wine appreciation classes, written a regular column for a wine publication, and is a consultant in both winemaking and wine appreciation. "There is something very special about 'being in on the ground floor' in this blossoming new wine industry here in North Carolina," says Linda. "We are creating extraordinary history here by proving our wines can compete with any in the world and I am proud to be a part of that history". My namesake, The RagApple Lassie Vineyard, happily grows in the small Yadkin County town of Boonville, North Carolina, located about 25 miles northwest of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and just under the western gaze of Pilot Mountain (to you Andy Griffith fans, this is Mount Pilot). Vineyards are not new to North Carolina, in fact, 150 years ago, North Carolina produced more grapes than all other states combined. However, the grapes grown at the time were Concords and they did not survive the interruptions caused by World War I and Prohibition. Once again vineyards are flourishing in North Carolina, particularly in Yadkin and surrounding counties. This is no surprise because elevations of approximately 1,200 feet, soil composition and microclimates of the protected river basin make this area one of the best for producing quality wine grapes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
