Bodegas Paso Robles winemaker, and co-owner, Dorothy Schuler works with grapes native to Spain and Portugal. All of my wines are hand-crafted and aged in premium French and American barrels. As the winemaker, I search for grape sources throughout the state, looking for the most mature vines, noninvasive and ecological sound vineyard practices, and grape flavors as close to the European ones as possible. Grapes for Bodegas Paso Robles wines come from Napa Valley, San Benito, and Paso Robles.

Winemaker Dorothy Schuler
|
After settling down in Paso Robles, I decided to pursue my passion for winemaking but wanted to try something new and different.I am proud to be one of the few winemakers who concentrates solely on producing Spanish varietal wines in California. I am dedicated to crafting wines that reflect the Old World spirit of the Rioja region of Spain and the New World approach to winemaking.

2006 Graciano
Appellation: Central Coast
Winemaker: Dorothy Schuler
Graciano is medium bodied and fruity. During fermentation it exudes berry-red cherry and, at times, the aroma of a cherry Lifesaver! I love this varietal for its strong stone fruit flavors and brightness and for how it magically blends with Tempranillo to make a long-lived sophisticated wine. In 2006 there was enough of a very small crop to bottle a few cases on its own, the first time I have had this luxury. The Santa Ana Valley Vineyard, just outside the town of Tres Pinos, has hot days in the...

2007 Pimenteiro
Appellation: Central Coast
Blend of Bastardo, Tempranillo,
Winemaker: Dorothy Schuler
Bastardo is perhaps the rarest in this country, with only a handful of winemakers producing this wine alone or in a blend. The budwood for these vines comes from the El Gavilan Vineyard, planted in 1890, and obtained by Ron Siletto before the original vineyard was removed and replaced by new root stock and different grapes.During blending trials in February 2009 I decided to add in a small percentage of Tempranillo to tone down the pepper and make the wine accessible to more palates. The 2007 Pi...

2005 Viva Yo
Appellation: Central Coast
Blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon,
Winemaker: Dorothy Schuler
Winter rainfall was well above seasonal averages throughout the Central Coast. This was a relief after four dry winters. Summer temperatures were fairly typical until mid-August when a cool spell arrived in Paso Robles and lasted about a week followed by a second cooling at the end of the first week of September. Despite the abnormal cooling, both Paso Robles and Tres Piños had unexpectedly heavy crops -- I didn’t have enough barrels for all the extra fruit and had to turn down several tons o...

2009 Dona Blanca
Appellation: Paso Robles
Grenache Blanc Blend
Blend of Grenache Blanc, Malvasia,
Winemaker: Dorothy Schuler
This was the 3rd consecutive year of drought during the rainy season. A hot July, and intense heat for 2 weeks in August had most of us in Paso Robles thinking it would be an early, short harvest. The last 2 weeks of August were cool, and the Grenache Blanc was picked only 1 day earlier than in 2008. Although the Malvasia was picked 2 weeks later than in 2008, the Brix was almost 2 degrees lower, thus creating a 2009 Doña Blanca with lower alcohol and higher acidity than the 2008 vintage. Malv...
