Sourced from one of Napa’s most famous wineries. Wild, spicy nose with hints of mint, salami, licorice, and tar. Dense, powerful and tannic in the mouth. Petit Verdot often reminds me of Italian varieties like Nebbiolo or Aglianico. The wines are undoubtedly tannic, but with a wildly interesting array of scents and flavors. For the initiated.

37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Petit Verdot, 31% Merlot. Aged 10 months in 50% new European oak. Aromas of earth, black tea, black cherry and toasted nut. In the mouth, suave flavors of oak spice, red cherry and red currant take over. Not at all a blockbuster – subtle and long. A whopping 14.2% alcohol.

46% Petit Verdot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc. Refined nose of green herb, black pepper, cinnamon, cola, sausage and an earth component that is unique to Petit Verdot. Tighter than Padres in the mouth, more linear, but this has a core of singular flavor intensity. Built for the cellar, like Padres. An interesting pair to re-consider in a decade.

Relatively forward nose of smoke/earth/sautéed mushroom, charred meat, black tea, cinnamon and a floral fruit character combining orange and cherry. Plush, but not at all fat in the mouth. A middle-weight, despite 15.2% alcohol, that will gain richness and additional complexity with 3-4 years of additional cellaring

Spicy flavors of pear, apple and grapefruit.. Light to middle-weight feel in the mouth, but chewy finishing flavors have great hang time.
