    Founded in 1993, Duck Pond Cellars owns and operates 820 acres of vineyards in the valleys of northern Oregon and slopes of eastern Washington. Growing in these diverse climates allows Duck Pond Cellars to produce the best quality fruit for a wide selection of wines.

    Winemaker Mark Chargin
    Chargin received his Bachelor of Science in Fruit Science from Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo. Before joining Duck Pond Cellars, Chargin was assistant winemaker for Golden State Vintners in Monterey County and assistant winemaker at Cottonwood Canyons Vineyard and Winery in Santa Barbara County. He also worked in the cellar at Kirigin Cellars in Santa Clara County.

  • The vines spread their roots through sand and rock of the Eastern Washington desert seeking moisture. Their labor is intense as the sun beats down relentlessly. The grapes are small jewels, produced with great effort and concentrated in flavor. This wine embodies the elements of its creation; rich and ripe fruit flavors, powerful body and a heady aroma. Great balance lends the wine to a variety of food pairings, match for intensity.

    2009 Merlot
  • Appellation: Wahluke Slope
  • Winemaker: Mark Chargin
  • Barrel aging both French and American oak barrels added notable structure. The wine is rich with dark fruits such as plum and blackberry integrating beautifully with the oak. Hints of leather and velvety texture with a bit of chocolate linger on the smooth finish. Excellent accompaniment for lamb or roast beef. Also pairs well with medium intensity foods like grilled portabellas or lasagna.

  • Over 92 percent of the 2006 Pinot Noir comes directly from estate vineyards. The soil in these vineyards is primarily Jory soil, a weak volcanic ash that promotes low-yielding vines.

    2008 St. Jory Vineyard Pinot Noir
  • Appellation: Willamette Valley
  • Winemaker: Mark Chargin
  • Our first vineyard designated wine, the 2006 St Jory Pinot Noir comes from our showcase vineyard in the south Salem hills. 100% Jory clay is very high in minerals and is an intense red in color. The section of the vineyard used for this wine is cropped back to about half its normal fruit load as part of a year long plan to achieve the richest fruit possible. Here you will see the plan come to fruition with our 2006 vintage.

  • Eastern Washington sunny days supply the opportunity for winemaker, Greg Fries to create a Sangiovese with distinct fruit and supple texture. The wine exhibits lively aromas of bright cherry and violets with a hint of toast and vanilla. Its light to medium body is tempered by notable acidity and light oak tannins. Flavors of cherry and wild strawberry are complemented by a slight spiciness and warm finish. Drink now through 2008.

    2005 Desert Wind Syrah

  • Our Desert Wind Vineyard Syrah is a beautiful example of the variety. The desert climate of hot days and cool nights intensified the color to an inky purple hue. Only select lots of grapes were chosen for this special wine and then aged in French oak barrels for over one year. Indulge yourself in the wine’s bold fruit, chewy tannins and dense texture. Duck Pond’s theme on the 2003 vintage Syrah was “massive yet exquisite”.

  • These vines bask in the hot summer sun, carrying their fruit to full, ripe maturity. The plump, sweet berries freely release their juice and dark rich wine begins. The Columbia River Valley has proven an excellent climate for the Syrah variety and this wine shows why. The wine exhibits its varietal character of jammy fruit and spice; it has unique intensity derived from the climate, and subtle oak overtones imbued through winemaking.

  • Few wines can match lighter fare as well as Pinot Gris. Its crisp and juicy fruit character is so perfectly balanced. This wine comes from grapes planted in the gently rolling hills of the middle Willamette Valley. The soil is intensely red and high in minerals; the vineyards are slightly elevated in altitude, putting them in the path of constant colling breezes.     1996 Sparkling Pinot Gris

  • Finally available after extended tirage! The ’96 Sparkling Pinot Gris is our first sparkling wine made with this grape. We used 100% Pinot Gris grapes. It is dry and crisp leaving the palate refreshed and cleansed. Produced using the traditional “methode champenoise”, each bottle went through a secondary fermentation process to produce the bubbles. We are proud to offer this unique wine.
