From a prolific backyard plum tree and boyhood memories of the Founder's dad's plum wine grew an impassioned hobby and study of wines made from locally grown fruits. The winery was bonded in 1985 and opened to the public in 1987. The winery has grown steadily and is known and respected throughout the state for its fine quality wines and has entertained visitors from every state and 14 foreign countries. The location in the Texas Piney Woods country and the historical use of available fruits for what is known as "Country Wines" gave the winery its name. Piney Woods specializes in award winning fruit wines and muscadine grape wines. The wines vary from dry to sweet, but we feature wines that are sweeter and fruitier that satisfies the taste of the thousands of beginning wine drinkers in middle America. Founder, Alfred Flies, the owner/winemaker and his staff welcome you for tasting and sales year round. Winemaker Alfred Flies PINEY WOODS COUNTRY winery & vineyards is one of the pioneer Texas wineries. Licensed in 1985 the winery has enjoyed over 20 years of success, featuring Muscadine grape wines and fruit wines. The owner and winemaker, Alfred J Flies, has been honored four times for his contributions to the Texas wine industry, by the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association and has recieved over 70 wine competition medals, which most recently include one Top Texas Wine, one double gold, two gold, three silver and three bronze medals from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo International Wine Competition. Honors include 10 belt buckles, representing 4 International Best of Class awards and 6 Texas Best of Class awards. Alfred also feels greatly honored and proud to be selected as one of 14 wineries to have two Dallas - Forth Worth hotel meeting rooms named for his winery. |
