Memaloose Wines bring you the bright flavors of the Columbia Gorge AVA - America's most unique wine appellation. Our story is about a place, a family, and the love of good food. Grown and produced in a National Scenic Area by the McCormick Family, these wines are grown to complement food. Estate vineyard sites lie on both the Washington and Oregon slopes of the Columbia River, at various elevations and in distinct micro-climates spread throughout this exciting, young AVA. Our spectacular tasting room is located next to the Klickitat River bridge, at the corner of the Klickitat and Columbia Rivers in Lyle, Washington. Join us at the Tasting Room!

    Winemaker Brian McCormick
Winemaking is a means of preserving grapes.
As in "putting up" other farm products (making jam, for instance), our skill is measured by the degree to which the process remains invisible in the final work - that is, our goal is to usher even the fruit's subtlest qualities from vine to glass in such a way that our labor leaves the least mark.
(Of course, there is transformation too -fermentation is chaos close to magic—but this is not our artwork.)
We are devoted to the expression of the site (above all) and the vintage and the specific nature of the each grape variety.
These are intended to be wines for the table; as such, we avoid elevated alcohol levels and overt "oakiness." Harvest dates are selected so that the fruit itself may provide both balance and structure - particularly with regard to acidity.
Please let us know how we're doing.

  • A minor vintage claret. Subtle perfumes build in the glass (I’m presently enjoying this bottling as much on the day after it’s been first open). Just medium in weight, and gentle---this was 2008 in the Gorge (showery September, cool ripening period, fruit just ripe by Halloween), which called for tenderness at the press. Mellow and savory, there are scents of muddled dark fruits, leather, perhaps a sprig of mint…. The usually muted acidity was left unadjusted, a fact I may come to regret; ... ...read more
