I handcraft two Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons without compromise, from some of the finest vineyards in the Napa Valley- a region that I believe can make Cabernet as well, or better, than any other place in the world. These benchland vineyards are located between Rutherford and St. Helena, where deep, stony alluvial soils promote the ideal growing conditions for the Cabernet vine. These vines regularly produce some of the most concentrated and superbly ripened fruit anywhere. My winegrowing goal is to make wines that are both powerful and elegant, speak of place, grace the table and enjoy a long, distinguished life. My winemaking techniques are very traditional, using only small French oak barrels sourced from several forests for complexity. It is my job to let the vineyards speak.

Winemaker Cathy Corison
With tenacity and determination, Cathy Corison has forged a life of wine that has spanned three decades, transcended formidable challenges and surpassed her wildest dreams.
Cathy discovered her passion for wine while pursuing a bachelor's degree in biology at Pomona College in Claremont, California. Inspired by the notion that wine is "alive at every level," she went on to receive a master's in Enology from U.C. Davis in the mid 1970's.
Almost thirty years of winemaking for others, including Chappellet Vineyard, Staglin Family Vineyard, York Creek Vineyards and Long Meadow Ranch, honed her skills and left her eager to express her own winemaking voice. In 1987 she made the first vintage of Corison Cabernet. "There was a wine inside me that needed to be made", she says.

2001 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Appellation: Napa Valley
  • Winemaker: Cathy Corison
  • The 2001 Corison Cabernet is a beauty. Warm days and cool nights resulted in inky dark color, complex flavors and the terrific balance. The spare rainfall during the winter months favored a smaller than average crop, contributing uncommon intensity to the wine. It is the natural acidity in a wine that gives it the liveliness to be refreshing and the longevity to reward patient cellaring. Fleshing out this sturdy framework are rich, complex flavors and aromas. The red fruit notes include plum, ... ...read more

    2004 Kronos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Appellation: Napa Valley
  • Winemaker: Cathy Corison
  • I am delighted with the lovely 2004 Kronos Vineyard Cabernet. The season started with a very early spring and finished with a slow and steady ripening period with nary a day over 100?F. We picked very early, enjoying perfect weather. Extremely low yields resulted in exceptional concentration. A perfume of violets, dried rose petals and star anise in the aromas complements lush blackberry, dusty plum and black cherry flavors. Nutmeg, mineral, cedar and dark chocolate notes chime in. Delicious.

    2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Appellation: Napa Valley
  • Winemaker: Cathy Corison
  • The 2005 Corison Cabernet is classic and refined with great bones. September that year was unseasonably chilly and harvest was a full month later than normal. Time on the vine allowed the development of the full range of flavors that Cabernet can achieve (red and blue fruits grading into the darker, purple and black notes) at moderate alcohol. Cold nights promoted great natural acidity. Inviting aromas jump out of the glass. Cherry pie, complete with allspice, nutmeg and cardamom, dominates the ... ...read more

2006 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Appellation: Napa Valley
  • Winemaker: Cathy Corison
  • Budbreak came very late in 2006 due to cold, rainy weather that continued well into spring. By early June, the sun finally came out and the vines began to bloom and set fruit. Even, cool weather arrived at last with August (in the nick of time for flavor and color development) and continued through a very late harvest for a nearly perfect ripening season. Effusive aromas of ripe boysenberries, black plums, chocolate and nutmeg spice jump out of the glass. Juicy, mouth-filling flavors of berry... ...read more

  • Acclaim: Connoisseur's Guide- One Puff It is a polished and manicured wine of keen definition and sports plenty of curranty fruit and fine oak. We very much like its chances to age and recommend a wait of some four or five years.

2007 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Appellation: Napa Valley
  • Winemaker: Cathy Corison
  • 2007 was the first of three droughty years with only 60% of normal rainfall. Warm weather in March resulted in an early bud-break but a long, moderate to cool summer lengthened the ripening season nicely and yielded wonderful natural acidity in the grapes. After a short heat spike at the end of August the weather turned cool again for the rest of the season. Picking was leisurely. It was one of those vintages that made winemaking look easy. Warm, rich aromas feature cinnamon, pie crust, ripe pl... ...read more

  • Each year I produce a small lot of Gewürztraminer from a 31-year-old vineyard in the Anderson Valley, which is clearly the best area in California for the variety. Inspired by Alsatian wines, the Corazon is fermented to dryness. Made this way, Gewürztraminer cries out for food. Complex aromas include pear, honeysuckle, honeycomb, wildflowers, lychee, grapefruit zest and chamomile. The flavors are rich with citron and vanilla flavors and subtle spice notes.
