Big Basin Vineyards was born out of a love for Syrah and the rugged, ocean-cooled Santa Cruz Mountains. Our vineyards are planted on steep, windswept hillsides where French immigrants first grew wine grapes nearly 100 years ago. We are passionately dedicated to our vineyards, farm organically and keep yields very low. Our mission is to create wines that reveal the complex nuances of the vineyards that inspire them - cool climate, ocean-influenced, mountain vineyards.

2008 Alfaro Family Vineyard Pinot Noir
Appellation: Santa Cruz Mountains
Winemaker: Bradley Brown
The wine possesses an exuberant nose of pomegranate, black cherry, brambleberry, wet stone, and hints of rose petals, sage, forest floor and sassafras. The wine is silky, full bodied and coats the palate evenly with cherry-rhubarb compote, pomegranate and a melange of black and red fruit. 2007 Frenchies Ranch Syrah
Appellation: Santa Cruz Mountains
Winemaker: Bradley Brown
The 2007 Frenchies Ranch Syrah is the inaugural vintage of our Estate reserve wine named for the Frenchman who last tended vines on this land from the mid-thirties through the mid-sixties. If it weren’t for Justin Lacau and those who preceded him, we would not be farming this exceptional hillside vineyard surrounded by 10,000s of acres of redwood and hardwood forests. We aged this wine a full 30 months in three new French oak barrels and then bottled it un-fined and unfiltered in May 2010.

2007 Rattlesnake Rock Syrah
Appellation: Santa Cruz Mountains

The wine is a deep garnet color. Classic Rattlesnake Rock high-iron minerality on the nose with lavender, violets, cedar/incense, spice box, leather, and hints of cherry blossoms and anise. 2008 GSM Rose'
Appellation: Santa Cruz Mountains
Rosé of Grenache Blend
Blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre,
Winemaker: Bradley Brown
Our 2010 vintage Rose' benefited from the addition for three new vineyard sources that provided us with extra Grenache and Mourvedre that we were able to include in the blend. The final blend is 39% Grenache, 50% Syrah and 11% Mourvedre. Barrel fermented in used French, but not neutral, oak with indigenous yeast fermentation.
