Winemaker John York
Pamo Valley Winery is pleased to announce its new, enthusiastic promising Winemaker, John York to their team! John and his wife Paula Payne are both Ramona residents and operate Hellanback Ranch Vineyard. Amongst all of John's other work and hobbies he manages to keep busy with his duties as Program Coordinator for the Ramona Valley Vineyard Association. John & Paula and several of their family members have been helping with Pamo Valley's harvests since 2004. In 2007 Pamo Valley had an ownership transition at which time John was approached and asked to share his passion of wine and become our new winemaker. Hesitant at first, naturally, he obliged. John's knowledge, perspective, collective wisdom and incredible palate bring a new, unique and sophisticated wine making style to Pamo Valley. We are extremely pleased with our 2007 vintage and look forward to an enjoyable and rewarding future of making the best quality, boutique wines you'll find in all of San Diego County - that's our guarantee! 2007 Merlot

  • '07 Merlot - this wine is made from grapes from Pyramid Vineyards in Ramona. The goal in developing this wine in '07 was to make a light "porch wine" that has a broad commercial appeal. We used American oak chips in the first rack. It is relatively light in color and soft on the palate, showing good varietal characteristics.

    		2007 Sangiovese
  • Appellation: Ramona Valley
  • Winemaker: John York
  • Sangiovese - This wine comes from Paccielo Vineyard in Ramona and, as always, the fruit quality was excellent. The '07 Sangiovese is one of this year's stellar wines, with lots of fruit and very defined varietal characteristics of strawberry, blueberry and violets. This is a local favorite. We used new French oak for one of the barrels, and a neutral barrel with no oak in the other, and then blended the two during the second rack.
