At Blair Fox Cellars we are passionate about the production of small lot, Rhone varietal wines. We specialize in handcrafted bottlings of Syrah and Viognier from the most premium vineyards in Santa Barbara County. We search for vineyards, which produce grapes with beautiful concentration and intense varietal character. These grapes are hand harvested and then fermented in small lots to ensure the highest possible quality and true expression of the vineyard.

  • Winemaker Blair Fox
    Blair Fox, a native of Santa Barbara, started his winemaking career in
    Santa Barbara County after his graduation from U.C. Davis with a degree
    in Viticulture and Enology. At U.C. Davis he found he had a passion for
    Syrah and other Rhone varietal wines. Upon his return to Santa Barbara
    he found Santa Barbara County to be widely planted in Syrah, Viognier
    and other Rhone varietals and gaining a significant amount of praise and recognition from wine writers and consumers alike. It was a natural fit
    and Blair was immediately employed as Winemaker for Sunstone, a small family run winery in the Santa Ynez Valley.



    After over three years of making award winning wines for Sunstone he left and traveled to the Rhone region of France for further investigation into
    these extraordinary wines. He found the regions of Cote Rotie, L’Hermitage and Condrieu to be of most interest. There he tasted some of the best examples of Syrah and Viognier in the world! After this excursion he
    returned to Santa Barbara only to be lured away once again. This time he became engulfed in the marvelous Shiraz of Australia. After becoming the Vintage Winemaker for Haselgrove Wines in McLaren Vale, South Australia
    he fell in love with the area, wines and people of Australia. This is where he learned to believe in “terroir” and taste the earth in the wine. After this international winemaking experience, Blair felt it was time once again to return home where he found employment with Fess Parker Winery as the Rhone Varietal Winemaker. After three vintages at Fess Parker Winery he was promoted to Head Winemaker in 2005. Today he continues to craft superb Rhone varietal wines for his Blair Fox Cellars label.



    Blair Fox was recently awarded the Andre Tchelistcheff Winemaker of the Year Award at the 2008 San Francisco International Wine Competition!

    2004 Paradise Road Syrah
  • Appellation: Santa Ynez Valley

  • This vineyard experiences a much warmer climate than most other Santa Barbara County vineyards and possesses iron rich, nutrient deprived soils. This results in Syrah with tiny berries, small clusters and very concentrated flavors. The grapes were 100% destemmed and lightly crushed, leaving approximately 60% whole berries, into a 5-ton open top fermentor and cold-soaked for six days prior to inoculation.     2004 Purisima Mountain Syrah
  • Appellation: Santa Ynez Valley

  • : The Syrah clones 877, 174 and 7 were harvested from steep hillside blocks of the Purisima Mountain Vineyard. These grapes were 100% destemmed and lightly crushed, leaving approximately 60% whole berries, into a 1.5-ton open top fermentor and cold-soaked for five days prior to inoculation.   • : This vineyard possesses red, iron rich, nutrient deprived soils. This results in Viognier with tiny berries, small clusters and very concentrated flavors. These grapes are hand harvested, sorted and whole-cluster pressed to preserve the fresh, floral and fruity quality of this amazing varietal.     2007 Haylee's Rose
  • Appellation: Santa Ynez Valley
  • Rosé of Grenache Blend
  • Blend of Grenache, Counoise, Syrah,
  • Winemaker: Blair Fox
  • This Rose is 45% Grenache Noir, 45% Counoise, and 10% Syrah from Rodney's Vineyard in Los Olivos. I picked them on the same day at lower sugars and crushed/destemmed them together, cold-soaked them on their skins for 24 hours and pressed them off the next day. The juice was fermented in older French Oak barrels at cool temperature. At the end of fermentation I added SO2 to prevent malo-lactic fermentation.
