Forgeron, the French word for blacksmith, also refers to artisans who build with their hands combining experience with an extensive knowledge of their trade. In our winemaking we assure quality through a time-tested hands-on approach. Our careful selection of vineyards, our gentle handling of fruit and our precise blending of varieties shows respect for age-old traditions. A renovated, turn of the century blacksmith shop houses our tastng room and winery, where we strive for a wonderful depth and complexity in our wines. We invite you to experience the tradition.

Winemaker Marie-Eve Gilla
|
Founded in 2001, the winery became reality when the investors recruited a French born and educated winemaker, Marie-Eve Gilla. Marie-Eve has extensive experience as a winemaker, in the Burgundy region of France, Oregon, and Washington. Under Marie-Eve's direction, Forgeron Cellars focuses on producing true varietal wines. Marie-Eve says, "My wines have a sense of place, they reflect their terroir which is composite of the vine location and the grower dedication. I practice minimal intervention winemaking, enabling each grape to fully express itself. Using this winemaking philosophy allows me to craft food friendly wines of great character."

2007 Klipsun Merlot
Appellation: Red Mountain

Ideal Spring 2007 conditions lead into slightly lower but uneven Summer temperatures. Slightly cool, yet perfectly sunny and dry Fall weather allowed for flavor development, acid balance, and ripeness. 2007 is an excellent vintage for Merlot with balance to allow for a decade of aging.

Appellation: Wahluke Slope

Primitivo is a lesser known varietal that is closely related to the Zinfandel grape, however the wines they produce have very distinct differences. The fruit character is less jammy, the structure is more similar to old world wines, with rustic notes of earth and spice, as well as tamed fruit flavors. NV Walldeaux Smithie

Blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, Petit Verdot

Walldeaux is a non-vintage blend for more consistency and desity. Blending vintages allows a full tasting experience with complex layers from the "mature" vintages, combining with fruity, youthful and juicy mouth filling flavors from the "younger" vintages. This wine is bold and juicy with a firm structure. The full flavors and smooth tannins suggest a new-world wine while its focus and balance, dark fruit and spice flavors are definitely reminiscent of old world Bordeaux.

We like to use multiple vineyards in our quest to produce our very unique, consistent, signature Chardonnay. By sourcing from many terroirs, some cooler and some warmer, we consistently craft the complex, rich, and full bodied yet deliciously crisp, refreshing Chardonnay we are so famous for. An unusually cool 2010 Spring & Summer lead into a consistently warm Fall, producing balanced, elegant wines with lower alcohol and higher acidity.
