McKeon-Phillips Winery is the best kept secret in Santa Barbara County. Nestled quietly away in the Vintner’s Plaza in Santa Maria, California. We have been producing increasingly outstanding, award-winning, handcrafted and unique wines since 1982. McKeon-Phillips Winery brings to the central coast of California the very best of European and Early American style of apprenticeship to the making of its fine wines. McKeon-Phillips Winery is essentially a family run operation that makes small lots only the highest quality premium wines. Ardison Phillips, the proprietor, and winemaker, has a masterfully eclectic background that makes him a living icon on the central coast. He is an internationally collected and recognized artist. His artwork hangs in and is collected by major museums throughout the world. He studied art with some of the most important figures and teachers of the last hundred years, and his work spans a variety of styles from abstract, expressionist, figurative, representational, to completely and indescribably original. He has designed virtually all of the labels that adorn the bottles of the McKeon-Phillips wines, with the exception of two labels that have been designed by his son Bailey. Ardison developed his love of food and wine while touring Europe and discovered the magic of harmony balance that could be achieved in both the food and the wine when they were properly paired. He went on to open and run the West Hollywood landmark, The Studio Grill restaurant. For years this restaurant was one of the standard bearers of quality and innovation in cuisine, service and was repeatedly noted for its extensive wine list. At heart, Ardison is an educator, and when you visit the winery and the tasting room you will most often find him there, and you will note from its design, he encourages you to pull up a seat, get comfortable and enjoy and learn about the fruits of his labor. At McKeon-Phillips Winery we have a simple philosophy. We want everyone to enjoy the best bottle of wine possible at a price that is reasonable and affordable. We want our tasting room to be an experience, one of education and pleasure, one that will leave a lasting impression on each person who walks through our doors. Winemaker Bailey Phillips Bailey McKeon-Phillips is one of the most amazing up and coming young winemakers in the California. He is currently serving as cellar master and overseeing the production of wine at McKeon-Phillips Winery. Bailey has learned in the best of possible ways. The wine trade has been taught to him by his father, in the method of apprenticeship that has virtually disappeared from this country and from the fine art of wine making in this past century.<br><br>Bailey has a formal education in winemaking from classes at U.C. Davis and ongoing education through Allan Hancock college to keep his skills sharp with any of the latest innovations in the technicalities of the age old tradition of wine making, but his real experience has come from the act of doing, the act of making, from creating alongside his father the magnificent wines that come from McKeon-Phillips Winery. Since 2002 the vintages have been increasingly exquisite under his unique influence and care and have continued to show remarkable growth in quality and maturity. During this time McKeon-Phillips has also released some of its most outstanding limited release ultra premium wines! |
