Established in 1993, Matthews Estate is located in the heart of the Woodinville Wine Country. The boutique winery is owned by two local families and focuses on maintaining production of bordeaux style and single varietal vineyard designated wines, using grapes grown in Washington State from vineyards that have experience and respect for nature and soil. The winery and winemaker, Aryn Morell, believe that there is a deep and tangible link between the vines, hills, winegrowers and winemakers, and carries this proof of affinity into every aspect of winemaking: from the vineyard to the cellar, from the vine to the wine bottle. The many and numerous accolades we receive from the public and wine world alike are an undeniable proof and future motivation to us.

Winemaker Aryn Morell

Originally raised in Washington, Aryn came home after a five year stint in the Napa Valley. During his time in Napa he worked for wineries such as Golden State Vintners, Edgewood Estates in St. Helena and Silver Oak at their Napa facility. He then moved to work for a consulting company that focused on Chemical Engineering within the wine industry,and it was here that Aryn says he gained huge insights on the industry as the company had almost 900 clients. He has always said that being able to achieve something in the winery usually means you needed to experience it at another place. Well, having been in most of the wineries that we all dream about, he has the unique ability to say he has actually seen those things first hand. Having tasted some of the wines that Aryn has already made here at Matthews,we are excited about the future and what we believe will be the new standard in Washington State.

Red ------------- ---	2009 Columbia Valley Syrah Appellation: Columbia Valley Winemaker: Aryn Morell Deep blue-tinted garnet in color, the nose exhibits rich plum and black currant tones with a dash of floral pepper. A lingering note of citrus oil follows, along with a mixture of wild berries. With a little time, the scent of softer strawberry fruit also rises from the glass. Swirling brings up ripe, textured black fruit, with a beautiful nose that shows balance and purity.
