Pronounced “szz-eh-jee”, our name refers to the moment of perfect alignment between three celestial bodies, such as that occurring during a total solar eclipse. This concept of alignment is fundamental in our approach to winemaking – different varietals and diverse vineyards blended together in perfect alignment. Owner and winemaker, Zach Brettler, produces very limited red wines from vineyard sources expressing diverse terroir, including sites in Walla Walla, Horse Heaven Hills, Red Mountain and the Wahluke Slope. Our bottled wines include a Syrah, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and unique red blends (including the recent addition of Malbec and Tempranillo). SYZYGY began production in 2002 with 600 cases and has grown to approximately 2000 cases in our current vintage. All wines are made “crush to bottle” at our facility located near the Walla Walla airport. |

Winemaker Zach Brettler A native New Yorker, with a BA from Columbia University, Zach Brettler fled a 7-year career on Wall Street in 1994 searching for a calmer life in beautiful Seattle. Always a wine drinking enthusiast, Zach eventually found his way into the cellars of several Seattle area wineries and began offering his assistance, quickly becoming enamored with all aspects of winemaking - the art, the science, and yes, even the purple-handed physical labor. In 2001, having fully caught the winemaking bug, Zach, along with his long-time partner Kelsey, moved to Walla Walla. Zach worked for about 6 months at L�Ecole #41 over the 2001 harvest as he scouted for a startup location for a small winery and in 2002 SYZYGY was born. |
