Gus Anderson produces Eagles Trace wine in a cave that was built in 1986 and is adjacent to the vineyards. This is a perfect location and site for his evolving ideas for making great wine. Caves have always been an ideal place for winemaking and storage because they maintain constant temperature and humidity. Temperatures in the cave at Eagles Trace are a steady 60 to 62 degrees year round; the humidity is an ideal 85% which prevents excessive evaporation of wine from the barrels. Caves are also quite efficient in terms of energy conservation and costs. The only energy expense at Eagles Trace is for the electricity used for lighting. Winemaker Gus Anderson	With over 35 years of winemaking experience, first as a home winemaker and later after studying grape growing and winemaking at the University of California at Davis, Gus Anderson still maintains a high passion for hands-on winemaking seldom seen in the industry. The winemaking goal at Eagles Trace is to make wines with the elegance and finesse of a great Bordeaux vintage along with the rich fruit flavor that comes with the best of Napa Valley grapes. Dark ruby/purple in color. It presents an aroma of violets, vanilla, spice, and black fruits. The wine makes a beautiful entry to the palate with black berries, black currant, and plums. It has great depth and concentration with lingering flavors of chocolate as a background to compliment the complex ripe tannins and long lingering finish.
