Bastardo is perhaps the rarest in this country, with only a handful of winemakers producing this wine alone or in a blend. The budwood for these vines comes from the El Gavilan Vineyard, planted in 1890, and obtained by Ron Siletto before the original vineyard was removed and replaced by new root stock and different grapes.During blending trials in February 2009 I decided to add in a small percentage of Tempranillo to tone down the pepper and make the wine accessible to more palates.
