This wine is predominately merlot based, bolstered by some cabernet sauvignon and spiced with cabernet franc. The aromas are of earth and coffee grinds followed by flavors of bittersweet chocolate covered raspberry all held together with firm tannins and pleasing food friendly acidity. On the palate are fruit notes of deep ripe plum and black cherry with an undercurrent of earthy mineral. The tannins from the contact with the skins during fermentation and with the oak during the twelve-month aging period make their presence known.
