The fruit for this wine came from the very sandy White Hawk Vineyard in Santa Barbara County. The vines had to work extra hard resulting in concentrated and pure fruit rarely seen outside of Tuscany. A small amount (3%) of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Young-Inglewood Vineyard was blended in to enhance the finish, aromas/flavor complexity and overall balance. The 2008 Sangiovese Grosso is the second bottling of 100% VCR-6 clone from Ciel du Cheval, and a blend of our ten best barrels. This wine is meant to age, and will show best if given several years before opening.
Acclaim: Cellar Tracker: 89:Cana's Feast Wine Club Pickup Party: Wine #3, paired with lamb meatballs with lentils. Lots of tobacco and leather in this wine, which is drinking very nicely for such a young Sangiovese (the winery recommends holding until 2012).

Sangiovese - This wine comes from Paccielo Vineyard in Ramona and, as always, the fruit quality was excellent. The '07 Sangiovese is one of this year's stellar wines, with lots of fruit and very defined varietal characteristics of strawberry, blueberry and violets. This is a local favorite. We used new French oak for one of the barrels, and a neutral barrel with no oak in the other, and then blended the two during the second rack.
