For the most part this is a well balanced fruit driven wine with very broad appeal. I prefer to age Sangiovese in neutral barrels to let the delicate fruit components and vineyard characteristics come forward. Medium bodied with lots of red fruit, a round balanced palate chased with a smooth, supple finish. I really enjoy this wine around a large table of friends and a family style Italian meal, it’s a perfect fit.

The 2007 Sangiovese Grosso is made entirely from the VCR-6 clone sourced from Ciel du Cheval vineyard in the Red Mountain region in Washington. This clone is the same used in the celebrated Brunello di Montalcino wines from Italy. Less than four acres of VCR-6 were put in exclusively for Cana's Feast in 2002 at Ciel du Cheval, and they are the first certified plantings of this clone in the United States.
Acclaim: cellar Tracker: 89:Cana's Feast Wine Club Pickup Party: Wine #3, paired with lamb meatballs with lentils. Lots of tobacco and leather in this wine, which is drinking very nicely for such a young Sangiovese (the winery recommends holding until 2012).
